National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) members have had eight cases of malicious damage to property opened against against them.

Since the workers in the metal, engineering, iron and steel industries started striking, employers have had to increase security.

According to the Sebenza SAPS communications officer, Constable Mahamba, the SAPS has escorted strikers to ensure they do not get out of hand. This followed several reports of vandalism sent to the Sebenza SAPS.

Constable Mahamba said that some NUMSA members were reported to have broken windows, fences and gates.
