SAPS still investigating woman’s death

The forensic test results for a case pertaining to an elderly woman who was found dead in her house have not yet been returned to the Cleveland SAPS.

It was previously reported that the body of a woman was discovered in neighbouring suburb of Kensington, on March 30, by a security guard.

According to Ms Belinda Brooks, a resident, the woman had been dead for days prior to being found.

She said the woman had fallen ill and was taken to hospital for treatment. She was then discharged and appointed a social worker because there was no one else to look after her.

Ms Brooks and the security guard, who did not want his name published, believed the social worker did not take care of the woman.

Despite their belief, the spokesperson for the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Ms Lungiswa Mvumvu, said the social worker appointed performed his duties.

She said all planned visits were conducted and the woman was referred for placement through the Age in Action Placement Agency.

The woman was buried by the government. Her family could not, and has still not, been found.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said an inquest docket was opened and forensic tests were requested by the SAPS to determine the cause of death.

  1. Cant understand that they appoint a male social worker to work with an elderly female!

  2. I think it is a classic case of, I want a salary but I won’t work for it. Because if he did his job she wouldn’t be dead. This is very sad!
