Man killed, woman arrested after house robbery

A man was killed, a woman injured and two suspects are still at large following a house robbery in Kloof Road on June 29.

The incident occurred after a man came to Bedfordview to visit his aunt.

“When the man arrived at the house in Kloof Road, a Mercedes Benz stopped next to his vehicle. Men armed with firearms emerged from the vehicle, forcing the victim to enter the premise,” said the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi.

“When the suspects and the man entered the premises, they found two other men. The suspects demanded that the victims hand over their possessions and proceeded to steal valuables from the house. Cellular phones, wallets and laptops were stolen,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

The suspects fled the scene after stealing a BMW, which was later recovered at Cydonia Bridge by Germiston SAPS cluster operation group members.

“Investigations proceeded and a description of the vehicle was circulated. One of the stolen vehicles was spotted in Soweto, Meadowlands.

Meadowlands police officials tried to stop the vehicle, but the suspects sped off,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

“Police officers gave chase and the occupants began firing at the officers. The police returned fire, wounding one of the suspects. The vehicle came to a halt. Two men exited the vehicle and ran away. A female suspect was apprehended,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

“The vehicle was inspected and a male suspect, who was later confirmed dead by paramedics, was found in the vehicle,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

The female suspect, who was also injured, has since been hospitalised and is currently under police guard. She will appear in court as soon as she able to. She will be charged with possession of stolen property.

Investigations are continuing and the Bedfordview SAPS is looking for the other two suspects who ran away.
