Caxton Reynolds Race kicks off

The Caxton Reynolds Race kicked off on a high note on June 7 at Hirsch's Boksburg.

The eager and energetic teams braved the cold weather hoping to score high marks in their first task of the race.

The Reynolds Race is based on the popular television series, Amazing Race, and requires participating teams to complete various tasks across the East Rand in order to win the big prize.

The winners of this year’s race win an all-expenses paid trip to Zanzibar, sponsored by SA Reynolds Travel Centre.

A point system is used to monitor teams’ performances and score them accordingly.

The first team to finish a task within the given time walks away with bragging rights and top points that will be added to their overall score card.

The three teams with the most points by the end of the seventh week will go into the finals that will be held in Springs on August 2.

At the June 7 event, teams had to do the following:

Balloon lift – one member per team had to get a balloon inside a washing machine using their index fingers only to keep the balloon in the air until the balloon was inside the washing machine.

Cookie face – one member of each team had to place an Oreo cookie on their forehead and, using their facial muscles, had to direct the cookie to their mouth. The first team to get four cookies won.

Tissue run – each team had to take out tissue papers out of a tissue box using one hand only. The first team to take out all the tissues won.

The teams are:

Jenny Basson and Esté Reynecke represent Springs.

Johan Ferreira and Sophia Viljoen represent Kempton Park and Tembisa.

Liza Smith  and Petrus Lombard represent Boksburg.

Emmanuel Mgcina and Mduduzi Sihlongonyane represent Benoni
