Resident frustrated with roadside refuse

It seems all that has happened is that the rubbish has been put in bags and dumped on the same pavements intended to be cleaned.

EDITOR – I stay across the road from the Edenvale Post Office.

Almost three weeks ago, council workers cleaned the gutters and pavements and left the bags on the pavement.

On the Friday refuse collection the bins were emptied, but the bags were left.

Subsequently, they did the same thing on two previous weeks and the bags have still not been collected.

I, of my own accord, used my own car to move the bags out of Voortrekker Avenue.

In Hendrik Potgieter Street, on my pavement, the refuse bins are surrounded by refuse bags.

It seems all that has happened is that the rubbish has been put in bags and dumped on the same pavements intended to be cleaned.

I do not live in a rubbish dump and if it was my job to move the stuff from the pavements, why do not I get paid for it?

EDITOR’S COMMENT – The brand and communications department of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) commented as follows:

The EMM will investigate the said complaint on Hendrik Potgieter Street and remove the accumulated refuse bags.

It is however, encouraged that residents and businesses put all refuse in the provided bins.

Refuse bags and other refuse placed outside the said bin are regarded as abandoned and illegally dumped.
