Evils of racism discussed

The Rotary Club of Knights-Pendragon meeting took place at the Belgravia Bowling Club in Bedfordview on Wednesday, March 26.

Ms Tali Nates, a director from the Johannesburg Holocaust Foundation, was the guest speaker for the evening.

Ms Nates spoke about the horrors of holocausts and genocide, emphasising that there is a high importance in educating current generations of the evils of racism. She also highlighted the importance of human rights and respect for diversity. The Rotarians were informed of the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, which was established in 2008 and is due to be opened in 2014.

The mission of the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre is to teach people about the consequences of prejudice, racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia. The centre, in association with the City of Johannesburg, will be an educational centre, comprising an exhibition, memorial garden, seminar rooms, a resource centre and coffee and book shops.
