Award-winning journalist, best-selling author and script writer, Mr Gus Silber, kept members of Writers 2000 enthralled as he shared about the craft of writing

He was the guest speaker at the Writers 2000 meeting held on March 1.

He compared the work process of a writer to that of a plumber, who has a tool box and knows exactly which tool he needs to complete a given task.

“Writers have an infinite array of tools in their toolbox and can choose to use a number of them for the same task,” said Mr Silber.

He said that the test of one’s writing is to expose it on the open market. He encouraged writers to write about the world they know and to involve all the senses in an effort to create an “aha” moments for readers. He added that writers need to take their readers with them on a magical journey of stories. He said writers should use pace, drama, flow, and include twists and turns.

The next meeting of Writers 2000 will be on Saturday, March 29, and takes the form of a workshop on short story writing. The meeting will run from 9am to 12.30pm.
