Miss Earth SA talks about climate change at Modderfontein

Miss Earth 2013, Ashanti Mbanga will talk on her experiences late last year when she was involved with relief work in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan.

The Modderfontein Conservation Society (MCS) and Miss Earth South Africa have combined to present an entertaining and enthralling presentation at the next MCS evening meeting.

Miss Earth 2013, Ashanti Mbanga will talk on her experiences late last year when she was involved with relief work in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan.

Her talk, “Climate Reality: Focus on the Philippines”, follows the MCS annual general meeting which begins at the Modderfontein Town Hall at 1 Casino Road at 7.30pm on March 13.

Typhoon Haiyan, known as Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, was a powerful tropical cyclone that devastated portions of South-East Asia, particularly the Philippines, killing more than six thousand people in that country alone. Haiyan is also the strongest storm recorded at landfall, and unofficially the strongest typhoon ever recorded in terms of wind speed. As of January 2014, bodies were still being found. Visitors are welcome to attend this meeting. An entrance fee of R30 is charged to help cover expenses.
