Katerina Krejcirova, the wife of Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir, was arrested on Friday, February 28, in connection with a stolen car which was found on their property.

The arrest came when she was attending the bail application of her husband at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court. She was escorted out of the court by police officials.

According to the Hawks spokesperson, Captain Paul Ramoloko, Krejcirova will be charged with possession of a stolen vehicle seized at her Bedfordview home last week. She also faces charges of fraud.

“We have been investigating Krejcirova for the past six weeks for vehicle cloning and for being in possession of a stolen car,” said Captain Ramoloko.

“We are set to add fraud charges as well, but we cannot talk about the nature of these charges yet. Krejcirova will not appear alone, as another arrest will be made this weekend,” he added.

Krejcirova is set to appear at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday, March 3.

Meanwhile, on the day of his wife’s arrest, Krejcir was denied bail for the third time by Magistrate Reginald Dama at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

In a bid to have Krejcir released on bail, Ms Annelene van den Heever argued that Krejcir’s continued incarceration has caused financial detriment to the family. Ms van den Heever reiterated that Krejcir does not have a passport and therefore isn’t a flight risk, adding that due to the developments of Katerina’s arrest, Krejcir should be released on bail because his four-year-old son has no one to take care of him.

Krejcir’s defense reminded the magistrate that he is willing to be placed under house arrest and to report to the police station regularly.

Prosecutor Louis Mashiane argued that Krejcirovia’s arrest was not compelling enough circumstances to release Krejcir on bail, saying that Krejcir has two helpers and that they, together with his mother, can take care of his son.

This was Krejcir’s third attempt at securing bail since his arrest in November last year. The trial of Krejcir and his four co-accused has been set for May 5 to May 30 in the South Gauteng High Court.
