A training camp for swimmers sponsored by the Gauteng Provincial government took place at the Mandeville Sports Centre on February 15 and 16.

The camp was aimed at educating and preparing the 50 girls and 50 boys from across Gauteng for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

There were demonstrations from top swimmers like Chad le Clos, Nelson Silver, Leith Shankland and Myles Brown, under the mentoring of the national head coach, Grant Hill.

Dean Price, the High Performance Manager for Swimming South Africa said, “It is a training camp supported by the Gauteng Provincial government. The camp spans two days, involving 100 swimmers aged 15 to 18 years old from across Gauteng. Through the camp, we have selected these swimmers and we now intend on educating and preparing them for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. We have some of the top swimmers in the world involved in the two-day camp.”

“We give the swimmers a chance to see these top swimmers and what it actually takes to be a world class swimmer. Then we have the national head coach, Grant Hill, who informed the young swimmers on what to do in order to prepare for 2016. Basically, we brought in top experts to educate them on how to develop their swimming career to take full advantage of the possibility of being a top swimmer.”
