Dembovsky speaks at Rotary meeting

After an introduction from Kevin Pearson, the president of the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon, Mr Dembovsky highlighted the various issues pertaining to road safety and stressed the figures.

The Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon met on February 12 at the Belgravia Bowling Club in Bedfordview.

The meeting featured chairman and founding member of the Justice Project South Africa (JPSA), Mr Howard Dembovsky.

After an introduction from Kevin Pearson, the president of the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon, Mr Dembovsky highlighted the various issues pertaining to road safety and stressed the figures.

“We lose a large number of people per day to death on our roads. An estimated 400 injuries occur on our roads everyday and about five people per day end up disabled from accidents. We need to bring in more effective methodologies to deal with road safety,” said Mr Dembovsky.

He also questioned and slammed the planning and implementation of the e-toll system by Sanral.

“I believe the South African public has been bullied terribly. Threatening people with the incursion of criminal records for driving on South African roads to get to work is the most ludicrous thing on Earth,” said Mr Dembovski. He also shed light into alternative ways that could be taken into account other than e-tolls.

The Rotary Club meets weekly, on a Wednesday evening, and is a supper club. In addition to reviewing business at each meeting, once a month the committees meet to discuss projects and twice a month speakers are invited to address the club.
