New executive head at Saheti

“Going into the future, my main drive together with the staff, is to maintain the highest academic standards possible."

Saheti School has welcomed its new executive head, Mr Warwick Taylor.

Mr Taylor becomes the fifth executive head at Saheti since the school was established in 1974 by a group of founders under the leadership of Advocate George Bizos.

“Everybody at the school has been very warm and welcoming. I have received plenty of positive support. There is excitement for new beginnings and with that, has come the excitement of change. There are always new opportunities with new beginnings,” said Mr Taylor.

When asked about the school, Mr Taylor said, “It is a school with great opportunity and potential. It has a heritage of good academics. What is central to the school is that there is a faith and Hellenic base of the Greek ethos that strengthens who we are. It is a well-structured school and academically, it stands out as being one of the top schools in the country. The pupils are challenged to think critically about things, the teachers are motivated the school provides a holistic education.”

“Going into the future, my main drive together with the staff, is to maintain the highest academic standards possible. That is the focal point and we need to continue with the heritage while going beyond where we have been before. So it is about keeping that going in a holistic education. I am a firm believer that it is not just about the academics, education needs to be about the heart and the spirit of the school. The culture, the sporting programmes, the leadership and the faith endeavours, all these factors need to be in place,” said Mr Taylor.

“Our school motto is, Know thyself. Part of my vision for the future is to push it across the spectrum at the school and to ensure that what we do is well-structured and planned. I will focus on structure and planning so it can be as good as it can be and I will definitely facilitate shared goals. My mindset is about giving the people at Saheti autonomy within their work areas and the freedom to design, be creative and to try new things because every child has something to offer. Critical to education is knowing the students and caring for them,” said Mr Taylor.

“My message to Saheti School is that I encourage everyone at the school to reach their full potential, be it teaching or learning. I encourage everyone to instil a love for life longer than you and to be motivated to get involved with life learning,” said Mr Taylor.

Mr Taylor taught science at Parktown Boys High from 1991 to 1994. He was then appointed to the position of head of the science department at King David School in Victory Park for five years. During that time, was promoted to the position of Vice Head of the School.

From 2001, Mr Taylor held the position of Head of Department for science at St John’s College in Johannesburg. In 2009, he was promoted to Senior Master and then progressed further by being appointed as the Deputy Headmaster at St John’s College in May 2010.

“This is my first post at Saheti and I am looking forward to the future,” said Mr Taylor.
