Preparations underway for annual fête

Little Eden has hit the ground running in preparation for its main annual fundraising event, the Little Eden Fête.

The popular fun day will take place on March 1 at the Domitilla and Danny Hyams Home in Edenvale.

The society has called on the community to assist with donations in cash or kind.

Contributions are sought for the bottle tombola stall and can include any unopened bottled item such as bath salts, wine, chutney or toiletries.

Alternatively, residents can also donate crafts, books, plants, knitting and needlework, or cakes to be sold on the day.

The theme for this year’s event is Neverland.

Residents wanting to join in the fun on the day are encouraged to dress up as their favourite Neverland character, such as Wendy, Tinkerbell, Captain Hook or Peter Pan.

There will be prizes up for grabs for the best-dressed visitors.

The purpose of the event is to raise funds to ensure the ongoing care of the 300 children and adults with profound intellectual disabilities.

Of the 300 residents, approximately 238 were previously abandoned and some come from indigent families who provide no financial support.

A shortfall of about R14-million a year has to be raised through various channels, including events like the fête.

Entrance to the event is R5.
