Literacy programme helping children

Organisers and volunteers of The Link Literacy Programme at Klopperpark Primary School recently received good tests results from grade 2 pupils at the school.

The Link is a programme aimed at improving literacy skills for second language English pupils in grades 2 and 3.

The programme is currently run in seven schools across Johannesburg and reaches around 630 children every week.

Through the programme, volunteers work at schools two days each week for around two hours.

12 volunteers from the Bedfordview and Edenvale areas participated in the Klopperpark programme.

The Link Literacy Programme will take on more volunteers this year.

“The more volunteers we have, the more children we can reach,” said manager, Ms Lyndia Moffett.

Anyone with a good command of the English language, who loves children and who has a few hours to spare each week, can qualify to be a volunteer.
