The Edenvale SAPS have warned of a fake, marked police car which was sighted in Edenvale.
“We can confirm that a marked police car, reported in Edenvale recently, is fake,” said acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts.
He said the vehicle is marked in a manner similar to an SAPS Flying Squad car.
“The vehicle was spotted by a former SAPS reservist who immediately identified it as fake,” said Lt Col Roberts.
He added that investigations are underway to trace the vehicle and all police stations have been alerted.
“The car is marked in a manner similar to a police car but there are some faults in the markings, which gave the bogus cops away,” said Lt Col Roberts.
Last year the NEWS ran a series of articles on bogus cops who have managed to turn a serious offence into a lucrative criminal business.
Residents are urged to report suspicious behaviour and vehicles to the SAPS immediately.
