Husband prevents robbery

A Bedfordview woman and her husband escaped without injuries following an exchange of gunfire during an attempted armed robbery at their home on St Georges Road.

The Bedfordview SAPS corporate communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said the woman had just parked her vehicle in her garage, shortly before 7pm on Monday last week, when she noticed an intruder on the driver’s side of the car.

“The man gestured to her, indicating she should remain quiet, and pointed his firearm at her. Another armed man also appeared and they both ordered her into the house. As she was busy unlocking the door to the house, her husband became suspicious. When the husband opened the door, the attackers fired at him but luckily missed. The husband returned fire and both the attackers fled the scene without taking anything,” Sgt Nhlabathi said.
