Bedfordview SAPS through to finals

Bedfordview SAPS walloped Germiston SAPS 5-1 during the East Rand Soccer Association's top eight semi-finals on Wednesday last week.

The two met at the Huntersfield Stadium in Katlehong.

The defending champions, Germiston SAPS, held Bedfordview to 1-1 at half time.

Bedfordview SAPS’s coach, Xolani Tyam, said he had to change his game plan after his boys missed five clear chances in the first half.

“We were creating chances but partly due to the wind, we could not convert them. I was scared that, as the wind was blowing in their favour, they would attack us. I told my boys to play carpet football and take the game to them. It paid off,” said the coach.

He said he noticed that Germiston SAPS’s middle field was strong.

“My team was strong in all departments. I told my boys to mark their middle field. That took them out of the game. Their strikers had to go deeper, trying to help defend. We were getting lots of free ball and chances to bang more goals in,” Tyam said.

Bedfordview SAPS will play against Katlehong SAPS at Huntersfield Stadium in Katlehong, next week Wednesday.
