Toddler on motorbike – EMPD traces reckless biker

EMPD confirms the licence plate of the bike has been traced.

A biker caught on camera riding recklessly through the streets of Edenvale with a young child wearing only a bicycle helmet could soon face the might of the law.

Spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, confirmed this morning that the licence plate on the bike has been traced.

“Due to on-going investigations at this stage, we cannot release further details – other than the fact that contact has been made with the owner of the bike,” Supt Kgasago said.

On Monday, a video clip uploaded on YouTube showed a biker riding recklessly with a young child wearing only what was described as a “cheap bicycle helmet”.

Yesterday morning, when at the time the NEWS published the article, the clip had over 6 000 hits.

This morning, the video clip had received over 49 500 hits.

Parents and authorities have spoken out about the incident, slamming the biker.

Twitter celebrity @Pigspotter, also known as Cliff, told the NEWS he was appalled and disgusted by the video clip.

“He is excessively speeding, not only endangering this little girl, but also other innocent motorists,” Cliff said.

The Minister of Transport, Mrs Dipuo Peters, also reacted to the video clip on Twitter.

“He must really be arrested. Putting the child through this life risking experience,” the minister tweeted.

  1. Probably just as well that the traffic authorities don’t release his details…. I should imagine there could quite easily be a lynch mob consisting of responsible bikers, mothers and other concerned citizens waiting for him …….

  2. I agree 100%. This guy is a lunatic. But I wonde!r why the outcry? Taxi drivers are jumping red lights and stop streets, exceeds the speed limmits with overloaded taxis….. Why is the honourable minister surprized. Honourable minister, sincerity can not be faked, no matter how hard you try.
