Former resident recalls Horwood’s farm house

My mom began restoring the Horwood’s farm house around 1990 and opened it as the Homestead Restaurant in 1991.

I remember their first day serving tables was Valentine’s Day.

She ran the restaurant with her partner, Mike Davimes, until they sold it shortly before she immigrated in 1999 to the USA, which is where we live now.

I know that before she restored the farmhouse it was in total disrepair and the park was not maintained.

She was instrumental in having the house declared a national monument.

The Homestead was very successful in its day, as a fine dining restaurant and won several dining awards.

The building was beautiful.

So much love and hard work went into making it what it was.

I am not sure what has happened to the place in the intervening years as we have not been back for some time.

But it is very sad to see it in disrepair.
