Krejcir lost millions and escaped death

Bedfordview resident and a Czech businessman, Mr Radovan Krejcir did not have a good month this month. On Wednesday Mr Krejcir escaped death.

Mr Krejcir had his two designer watches worth R1,2-million each and diamonds, stolen from his gold and diamond business property in Bradford Road in Bedfordview on Thursday, July 4.

Last week Wednesday there was an attempt on his life at the same property.

Bedfordview SAPS corporate communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said that on July 4, an unknown number of men gained entry through the roof and broke into the safe and stole the watches and diamonds.

Sgt Nhlabathi said that a remote controlled device fitted into a red VW Polo fired shots at Mr Krejcir’s black Mercedes Benz moments after he got out of the vehicle.

“The VW Polo was parked perpendicular to Mr Krejcir’s parking bay where he had parked. As he was going towards the office door, shots were fired from the Polo towards Mr Krejcir’s car, hitting the window on the driver’s side and the right passenger window. The Polo caught fire after that,” Sgt Nhlabathi said.

Sgt Nhlabathi could not confirm if these incidents are related.

“We are investigating them as separate matters. At present we have not established any reason to link them, maybe as the investigation continues, they might be linked,” Sgt Nhlabathi said.

When the NEWS visited Mr Krejcir’s business property on Thursday, marks on the wall and the rubble in the parking lot told the tale.

There were several bullet holes in the wall. In the parking bay where the Polo was parked, there were ashes.

When the NEWS asked to speak to Mr Krejcir, an official went into the office and another came out and said Mr Krejcir was not available at the time to speak to the NEWS.
