Motorist witnesses alleged police harassment

I witnessed a police officer harassing two females in a car.

The officer tried to grab the passenger’s cell phone and when he failed, he went around the car to try open the door.

They then drove off to the police station.

I met up with them at the police station and the station commander was no help.

Instead he was telling us that we were in the wrong for going to the police station and his staff would never do that.

As we were leaving “knowing we would not get help” they took down our vehicle registrations.

So I figure now we will be harassed and not have any leg to stand on due to the corruption.

COMMENT – Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, commented as follows:

A woman did come and see me on the day. She confirmed that she was the passenger of the vehicle.

During discussions she explained to me that the two had accidentally driven the wrong way up a one-way road.

Members of the police did not harass the women, they were simply performing their duties.

I did inform the two women that if they should feel they would like to open a case that they should come and see me directly and I would investigate the matter.

The station commander was not on duty on the day of incident and it was I, the relief commander, who assisted the two women.
