Unrepaired potholes in Eastleigh frustrate locals

“Many residents feel like we are the forgotten street.”

The unrepaired potholes on High Road in Eastleigh Ridge have residents at their wits’ end with the lack of service delivery in their community.

Two large potholes have formed on the road, while potable water leaks from a pipe further down the road.

According to resident Glenda McGoldrick, who contacted Bedfordview and Edenvale News after the lack of service delivery, the potholes and leak have existed for months.

She said the pothole closest to her property started as a small hole.

Having reported it in June to the CoE, they repaired the pothole, but it soon redeveloped.

In light of this, McGoldrick reported the pothole again in July.

Glenda McGoldrick, an Eastleigh resident, points to a pothole near her house and questions the lack of service delivery in her area.

She said the pothole continued to enlarge over several months and that the road surface had deteriorated over time because of the water flowing from the leak further up High Road.

Despite having reported the matter, McGoldrick said when she followed up on it in August, she discovered the matter had been closed without any work done to the road.

At the start of this month, McGoldrick again reported the pothole. It is now in the centre of High Road, forcing motorists to drive through it.

McGoldrick said the lack of service delivery to the area has frustrated many community members.

“Many of the residents feel like we are the forgotten street,” she said.

“What do we need to do for the city to take action?” she asked.
A request for comment was sent to the CoE on October 11, requesting comment by October 13 at noon.
At the time of going to print, we had received no comment.
