EMPD condemns vandalism on traffic infrastructure

The EMPD has warned against the deliberate damage and vandalism of traffic signs and signals.

“Noting the increasing instances of purposeful damage and vandalism of traffic signs in and around the CoE, the EMPD expressed concern over the fatal repercussions that follow due to such vandalism,” said EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said.

“It is alleged that criminals illegally remove the steel signs, in exchange for money at metal scrapyards,” said Thepa.

She stated that with increased load-shedding, the instances of collisions and traffic delays are heightened, due to the lack of visibility of the signs.

The EMPD urged residents to work hand-in-hand with law enforcers, to bring the criminals to the book and ensure safety for all.
