This followed an article published in the Bedfordview and Edenvale News / Germiston City NEWS in May, detailing the harsh realities the branch faced because of insufficient funding and support from the community.

Local organisations, businesses and individuals assisted the organisation in raising R68 000 and getting donations of blankets and food for the animals.

The branch chairperson, Roxanne Bredenkamp, said their monthly operations amount to R150 000.

“The insurance approved our vehicle claim and repairs are in progress. We would, however, appeal to anyone who could assist us in acquiring a sponsored vehicle,” she said.

Local councillors Jill Humphreys, Wendy Morgan and Kade Guerreiro embarked on a donation drive, appealing to the community to donate and emphasising the importance of the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA.

They will host an auction at the end of the month and are requesting community support.

Official dates will be on their Facebook page, including information on their fundraising events, a sleepathon and a golf day.

“We encourage people to continue donating. Monthly debit orders are welcome. Make donations via EFT or Payfast. We need continued support, whether it be monetary donations, donations-in-kind or volunteering of your time.

“Anyone who has suggestions or ideas for fundraising is welcome to contact us.”
