Rundle calls for road repairs in Edenvale

“It does not matter who is in charge or which coalition leads the municipality, with inept departments this is what we will find.”

The lack of pothole repairs in Ward 19 was recently highlighted by Alderman Bill Rundle.
According to Rundle, some of the potholes identified by Bedfordview and Edenvale News that have not been repaired range from a few months to a year, some to even four years.
Areas the NEWS were shown included Third and 10th Avenues, Ninth Street as well as the corner of Andries Pretorius and Terrace roads.
Although countless potholes were found on the portion of Third Avenue located in Ward 19, just across Hendrick Potgieter Street in Ward 18, numerous patchings could be seen along the avenue.

He said on Ferdinand Avenue there are over 30 unrepaired potholes.
At the corner of Andries Pretorius and Terrace roads, although a pothole was repaired, Rundle believes the repair is inadequate.

He said repair work was done last year, however, two cars and one truck drove into the open excavation while repairs were ongoing.

Since the repair job has been completed the road surface on Terrace Road’s left lane is now uneven.
Rundle said despite the numerous unrepaired potholes in his ward he said Edenvale Roads started repairs on April 19 along Samuel Street in Dunvegan.

The street, which Rundle described as a busy network road, which motorists use to transport learners from Dunvegan Primary School, make use of it daily.
“It does not matter who is in charge or which coalition leads the municipality. With inept departments, this is what we will find,” said Rundle.
“Things cannot go on like this.”

Rundle said when he raises questions about the lack of repairs, he is told the same old answers.
“I am told that the department does not have the money. It does not have tar or the necessary vehicles to transport staff.”

Although Rundle said he has not given up on getting Ward 19’s roads repaired, he doesn’t know where to turn.

He said residents are extremely frustrated and calling for action.
