Local clubs take part in canoeing races

The series aims to provide an opportunity for team selection for international competitions later in the year.

The canoeing clubs affiliated with Gauteng Canoe Union have set up a series of flat-water marathon races.

The races will be hosted by various clubs throughout Gauteng.

The series’ first race was hosted on April 15 at Florida Lake Canoe Club, in Roodepoort.

Paddlers who participated included young juniors from six to 12 years and the Great Grandmasters.

Participating clubs included Victoria Lake Canoe Club based in Germiston.

Experienced paddler Chris Rowe from Boksburg partnered with canoe learner Lydia Marais.

The due finished the 10km short race in a time of 01:11.
