Suspect with stolen vehicle caught by BFS

The Benoni Flying Squad arrested one suspect near the Gillooly’s Interchange because he was found in possession of a hijacked vehicle.

According to the communication officer, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the members pulled over the driver of a white VW Polo Vivo on the R24 just before Gillooly’s on March 19.

Giblin said officers noticed the vehicle while conducting highway patrols between March 17 and 19 in preparation for the national shutdown.

“Upon inspection, it was noted that the registration number on the license disc differed from that displayed on the vehicle,” said Giblin.

“The vehicle was tested and discovered to be reported hijacked on a Dennilton case.”

He said the 40-year-old man was arrested and detained at the Bedfordview Police Station.

“He will face charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s court.”
