Watch: Four of about 50 people critically injured in N12 crash

Those critically injured were airlifted to hospital.

Despite some reports that 43 people were injured in the N12 Edenvale off-ramp crash on February 8, ER24 has stated the number is closer to 53.

“Some responders reported 43 patients, however, more than one emergency service responded to treat patients. We estimate about 53 patients needed medical assistance,” said Russel Meiring from ER24. A bus, truck and vehicle were involved in the crash.

“Several emergency services responded and on arrival found the bus on the side of the road while the truck and vehicle were seen across the busy road. Scores of patients were found scattered on the scene of the accident,” said Russel Meiring from ER 24.

“Paramedics set up a triage area while the authorities diverted traffic. Medics assessed the patients and established that four were in critical condition, whilst 39 others had sustained minor to severe injuries.”

The patients were treated and those critically injured were provided with advanced life support interventions.
