Two caught by EMPD with counterfeit cigarettes valued over R 100 000

Permission to search the suspects and the property was granted and 1 000 boxes of illicit cigarettes, with various brand names, were discovered.

Officers from the EMPD Northern Region Task Team (NTT) and Warrants Unit officers intercepted two foreign nationals and confiscated illicit cigarettes on January 25.

EMPD officers were conducting routine patrols when they were alerted to a shop selling illicit cigarettes on Monument Road.

The value of the cigarettes is estimated at R104 000.

Officers responded and engaged with the two foreign national males on arrival.

Permission to search them and the property was granted. Some 1 000 boxes of illicit cigarettes, with various brand names, were discovered. The value of the cigarettes is estimated at R104 000.

The EMPD NTT and Warrants Unit team were hailed for their efforts.

The suspects face charges of dealing in illicit cigarettes. They were detained at Kempton Park Police Station and

will soon appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
