Motivational speaker spreads message to Jeppe High School for Girls

Motivational speaker, Jessica Pita who hopes to change the way society perceives disabilities recently visited Jeppe High School for Girls.

Jessica addressed the learners during their first assembly after being invited by the school’s principal Sybil Bhagwan. Speaking at the start of the year, Jessica hopes that it will motivate the learners.

At the age of 11, Jessica lost her sight after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2014 and is considered legally blind.

As a speaker, Jessica hopes to create awareness about disabilities.

The speech was based on Jessica’s journey.

Jessica said she tried to incorporate a sense of gratitude during her discussion with the Jeppe learners and tried to leave them with words to reflect on.

She told the learners they must remember the good things in life to build a foundation for their abundance.

“I do hope my words got through to all those amazing girls listening,” said Jessica.

“I hope the girls know they can achieve anything they set their minds to. It’s a great mindset to have a fresh beginning.”

Jessica said it was wonderful visiting the 103-year-old school. “I got the sense of sisterhood there,” she said.

After the assembly, the girls had their sports war cries. Jessica said it was wonderful standing in the hall listening to the learners.

“It was also impressive to hear about the 100% pass rate of the high school and the new developments at the school.”

Following her talk at Jeppe Jessica will expand her discussions into the corporate world.

She held one at the end of January with a second lined up soon thereafter.

Jessica hopes to grow her impact on society by creating awareness about disabilities and everyday life.

“I would like to approach the workplace to help encourage and motivate staff as well,” she said.

“No matter what our obstacle is, we can achieve our goal. It may take patience and time, but we can do it.”
