A female victim managed to disarm her attacker at a Kempton Park shopping centre on November 27.

It is believed that the woman was with her six-year-old child when the suspect tried to rob her.
According to Captain Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, the woman and her child were returning to her car after shopping at the corner of CR Swart Drive and Kelvin Street.
“She alleged that she was approached by an armed man who tried to take her belongings. In the scuffle, the man grabbed the woman’s handbag and ran away. She tried to shoot the suspect with the gun she had taken from him but discovered it was a toy gun.”
He added that security personnel at the mall chased the suspect.
“They caught the suspect meters from the scene,” said Mtshali.

“The suspect was apprehended and handed over to Kempton Park SAPS who arrested him. The victim’s belongings were returned.”
The man was detained at the Kempton Park SAPS pending his appearance at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the robbery.
