City of Ekurhuleni honours 2022 Idols winner

He continues to tour schools in Thembisa to offer motivational talks including Kaalfontein Secondary School.

Warrant Officer Thapelo Molomo SAPS songbird and the Idols 2022 winner was honoured by the City of Ekurhuleni on November 24 at the Germiston Council Chambers.

He was awarded a certificate of recognition by the Executive Mayor Tania Campbell.

As he left the podium, a few council members stole a moment to get photos with him.

The 29-year-old was born in Limpopo and grew up in Thembisa.

As he received his award, he thanked the City of Ekurhuleni and blessed the audience with a song before he exited the room.

He said it was an honour to be recognised by the city, adding that Thembisans need to stand firm in their spotlight.

“I encourage the city to continue investing and honouring other young talents.

“It is truly humbling that the city can recognise talent, especially us in the arts department. And I do urge them to continue supporting the arts and culture and artists in Thembisa and Ekurhuleni.

“The Idols competition was not easy and I honestly did not believe I would win it,” said Thapelo.

The Minister of Police General Bheki Cele attended the finals of the Idols.

He congratulated Thapelo who is stationed at Brits Police Station in North West.

He began his career in the SAPS as an intern in the Psychological Services Section and was later employed to serve as a trauma counsellor in the same environment.

“As a registered counsellor attached to the Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) component, he holds a BA (Hons) Psychology degree and is responsible for providing counselling and proactive psychological interventions to alleviate mental health ills for police members and their families,” said Cele.

“This member serves as a beacon of hope for many police officers who are daily faced with psychosocial challenges.

“He has illustrated to thousands of officers that hard work, determination and perseverance are the foundation of any successful human being.

“We are proud of him and wish him all the best. We cannot wait to have him back in the office to continue serving our men and women in blue,” said Cele.

Molomo has become an instant millionaire, starting with an R1m cash prize that includes a coveted recording deal with Kalawa Jazmee Records.
