Following the damage inflicted on the servitude Eastleigh resident, Les Tindale’s perimeter wall collapsed into the servitude on March 31 2018.

Tindale lives in the Riverleigh complex, located parallel to the servitude between the two roads.

He previously told Bedfordview and Edenvale News that the wall collapsed after the ground underneath it eroded.

Over the years, the annual rain continued to erode portions of Tindale’s Garden, damaging the remaining sections of his perimeter wall that were still standing.

Ward 18’s councillor, MMC for Infrastructure, City Planning and Land Parcels Heather Hart said work on the repair project, which is almost complete, started in mid-May.

Hart said the project was in two phases.

“Work started in May and continued into June. In July it started again with the approval of the new budget,” said Hart.

She said the servitude was redesigned to redirect the flow of water and prevent erosion along the bank opposite the Riverleigh complex.

“A new base which included gabion baskets was installed to secure the foundation of the servitude,” said Hart.

“Once this was done, everything was shored up with shotcrete to prevent further erosion in the servitude.”

Hart said it was a huge relief that the critical project was nearing completion.

“I was extremely concerned for the safety of the residents of the complex as their foundations were affected,” explained Hart.

“I want to thank the roads and stormwater department, the contractors and the consultants. They were all excellent,” said Hart.
