Fire guts Sebenza business

“It is believed that the individuals were unaccounted for during the evacuation.”

No fatalities or serious injuries were recorded at the scene of a Sebenza business fire as emergency personnel extinguished the blaze.

On August 30, City of Ekurhuleni firefighters from Edenvale, Bedfordview and Primrose fire stations responded to Terrace Road after a business caught alight.

A firefighter continues to extinguish the blaze on August 30 where a Sebenza business caught alight.

CoE Department of Emergency Management Service media liaison William Ntladi said the city received the call at 11:10 and simultaneously dispatched personnel from the three fire stations.

“With Edenvale Fire Station being closest, their personal arrived first and provided an assessment of the situation,” said Ntladi.

According to initial reports about the fire, two individuals were initially reportedly trapped in the building structure.

Ntladi said: “It is believed that the individuals were unaccounted for during the evacuation.”
He said they were later found alive.

Ntladi said although the cause of the fire is yet to be determined he confirmed that the fire caused large amounts of structural damage to the business which appeared to be an electronic warehouse.

At the scene, numerous stakeholders, that included Edenvale SAPS, EMPD, medical personnel and private security, assisted DEMS.

Ntladi said to assist in extinguishing the blaze firefighters employed the use of a hydraulic platform.
