CoE technicians commended for working during Thembisa protests

The service delivery protest saw a substation being burnt, leading to power outages in most parts of Thembisa.

Following the violent protests that led to power outages in Thembisa from August 1, MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy Senzi Sibeko commended the city’s technicians for their work during the shutdown.

Speaking to the team during a visit to the Thembisa energy depot on August 12, Sibeko gave a thumbs-up to the execution of duties during the volatile protest.

 

MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy, Senzi Sibeko commended the city’s technicians for their work during the Thembisa shutdown.

“Our technicians had to attend to faults amidst the violence. The situation was so tense that at some stage we had to withdraw these employees due to safety concerns,” said Sibeko.

“They came back and addressed the power outages when calm was restored, which is commendable,” he said.

Sibeko called on the residents not to damage infrastructure during service delivery protests.
