CoE to resolve waste management with new trucks

Metro is working hard to clear backlog in many areas, where refuse trucks had been unable to make their regular collections.

The City of Ekurhuleni said residents can expect an improvement in the refuse collection this week, following weeks of refuse collection delays in some areas due to insufficient trucks.

According to metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the metro has brought in additional refuse removal trucks and they have had teams working on the weekend and weekdays to help sort out the waste removal backlog in the affected areas, particularly in the hardest hit towns, including Benoni and Boksburg.

The city has been slammed for failing to address the ‘long-standing’ refuse removal truck problems at the embattled waste management department.

The truck shortage has caused waste collection disruption for up to three weeks in some areas.

“Residents who have not received waste removal services in the past couple of weeks will be notified through all the city’s communication platforms on days on which to take out their bins.”
