“St Benedict’s lived up to their motto ‘veritas in caritate’, which translated means truth in charity,” said Hospice East Rand’s marketing and media liaison Jonquil Siepman.

“This was evident while standing under one of their gazebos on Mandela Day enjoying a cup of coffee with staff and parents.”

On July 18, St Benedict’s supported Hospice East Rand’s Bring-A-Thing fundraiser for Mandela Day.

Some of the donations Hospice East Rand received from the community of St Benedict’s College when the school supported Hospice East Rand’s Bring-A-Thing fundraiser for Mandela Day.

The initiative aims to collect second-hand household items that can be resold in one of Hospice East Rand’s nine charity shops.

Jonquil said funds generated from the items sold are used by the NPO to support community members with life-limiting illnesses and especially those not fortunate enough to have medical aid.

Father Thabo Mothiba, St Benedict’s chaplain, said: “We are blessed to have a generous community that truly lives out the call to be a light in the world through their giving.

“The opportunity to support Hospice East Rand means so much to us and we look forward to their exciting fundraiser, the Polar Plunge, which will take place on our campus next month,” said Mothiba.

Jonquil said a variety of household items were donated. She thanked St Benedict’s College for its support.
