Saheti Winter Festival attracts local talent

Saheti’s head of sport for grades 1 to 7, Warren Metzer said the festival was started as the brainchild of Sophia Zachariou in 2004.

Saheti School hosted the 16th annual Primary School Winter Sports Festival on June 11.

A number of local schools including St Martin’s School, St Catherine’s Convent, Marist Brothers Linmeyer, Pinnacle College Founders Hill, Reddam House Waterfall, Hurlyvale Primary School and Saheti School participated in soccer and netball games.

Saheti’s head of sport for grades 1 to 7, Warren Metzer said the festival was started as the brainchild of Sophia Zachariou in 2004.

“The festival is about building skillsets, mindsets and relationships.”

Her vision was to develop sports in Saheti and neighbouring schools.

“The festival is about letting learners play,” Metzer said.

He added that following on from the last two years of Covid restrictions, the school wanted to give young players of all skill levels the chance to compete in a fun and encouraging way.

“The festival is about building skillsets, mindsets and relationships.”

Hurlyvale Primary School dominated the U12 soccer section to come out as the winners with Saheti School as runners-up.

 

The U12 winner on the netball court was Hurlyvale Primary School with Saheti School as runners-up.

In the U13 netball tournament, Saheti took the title with Reddam Waterfall as runners-up.

The overall netball winner of the U12/13 age group was Saheti School.

Hurlyvale Primary School dominated the U12 soccer section to come out as the winners with Saheti School as runners-up.

St Catherine’s won the U13 section of the soccer tournament with Hurlyvale as runners-up.

The overall soccer winner of the U12/13 age group was Hurlyvale Primary School.
