Following the submission of two of Katya’s Grade 12 design portfolios to a designer in New York, the designer was so impressed by her level of work that she invited Katya to join her for a couple of weeks and experience the ins and outs of life as a fashion designer.

Katya arrived in New York on January 22.

The designer was amazed at the level of work Katya had produced at school and was extremely surprised that she was already working on such advanced digital design programmes.

She added that Katya’s level of work was superior to work that she had seen from candidates at varsity level applying for internships and was also impressed by her innovative design ideas and production skills.

During her five-week trip, Katya will assist in the sampling and production of the new collection and learn how garments are made for production.

She will visit the garment district where the production factory is situated, attend photoshoots for the collection and participate in the showing of the new collection to potential buyers along with helping with the design of the next collection.

Katya will also visit some design schools in New York as potential study options.

She is truly thankful for this amazing opportunity and is excited about what the future may hold for her.
