Jeppe Quondam’s squash team takes second

"It was a fun league to participate in."

As the Gauteng Squash League came to an end, members of Jeppe Quondam’s B finished second with 209 points.
First place was taken by Wanderers E with 222 points while Bryanston Country Club placed third with 160 points.
Captain and Jeppe Quondam squash player Ryall Higgins said the sports club had two teams competing in the Gauteng Squash League.
He explained that the A team competed in the fifth league while his team, the B team competed in the sixth league.
“It was a fun League to participate in,” said Higgins.
“The opponents were super competitive and certainly capable of taking on teams in the higher leagues.”
Despite the competitiveness, Higgins said he enjoyed making friends and interacting with other players after the matches.
Members of the Jeppe Quondam Squash team who competed in the Gauteng Squash League consist of, Higgins, Russell Jones, Stephanie Jones, Kim Jones and Christine Lowe.
Reserves and honourable mentions included Clint Weston, Nick Gachet, Kieran Stainton and Miekie Alyward.
Higgins, a former Jeppe Old boy and ex rower of the school, highlighted that 14-year-old Russel and 17-year-old Stephanie excelled in the sixth league.
He said Russel was Didn’t lose a match throughout the season and was the youngest player in the Gauteng Sixth League.
Similarly, he pointed out that Stephanie was the youngest woman player in the Gauteng Sixth League.
Higgins described the league as being well structured.
“I have to mention that the league would be nothing without the young talented upcoming players like Stephanie and Russell,” said Higgins.
“It’s always good to see the young blood pushing through the ranks.”
He said the young players provide new gameplay and continue to push the squash envelope to higher standards.
“I would encourage the others like them to continue in this exciting sport and in a couple of years we can look back at how they became SA champions.”
