Community helps find missing boy

A police officer saw Mika walking next to the road and picked him up before taking him to Norkem Park Police Station.

Five-year-old Mika Cramer went missing out of his parents’ house in Kempton Park on August 23.

Mika is a non-verbal autistic child who managed to get out of the yard and walked with children from Kempton Panorama School.

Marietjie Cramer, Mika’s mother, said it was like her heart stopped beating when she saw the gate open and Mika missing.

“It suddenly became quiet and I started to look for Mika. The next moment I saw that the garage door was open. I ran out to see if he maybe just went out to the street, but he was nowhere to be found. I put it on the community group and asked for assistance,” Cramer told Express.

The community jumped in to help with the search for Mika.

Marietjie explained: “It was one of my biggest nightmares come true when Mika disappeared. Chrissy Taylor phoned me to say a child matching Mika’s description had been picked up by police officers and was at Norkem Park Police Station. I rushed to the police station and found Mika there safe and sound.”

Taylor, an independent security controller, contacted Marietjie and offered her help.

“When I heard about the disappearance I jumped into action as I have family members who have autism,” Taylor told Express.

Taylor was coordinating with local security companies as well as the community at large.

Marius and Marietjie Cramer thanked the community and members of various security companies and the SAPS for helping to find Mika.
