Volunteers needed at Edenvale Methodist Church vaccination site

“This is the church’s way of reaching out and serving the community over the next few months so we can vaccinate those in the community,” said Diutlwileng.

Edenvale Methodist Church has called upon the community to volunteer at the church following the health department’s decision to use the facility as a vaccination site.

Past Mogomotsi Diutlwileng said community members should be able to get vaccines at the church from August 12.

He said the church needs 10 volunteers for queue marshals, six volunteers to assist with administration, and 20 doctors and nurses to provide vaccines.

Besides the listed volunteers, the church also needs volunteers to assist with cleaning.

Diutlwileng said the church applied as a vaccination site earlier this year and representatives from the Department of Health visited the church on August 3 to assess the facility.

He said the church will not be getting any money from the project as it is for the benefit of the community.

“This is the church’s way of reaching out and serving the community over the next few months so we can vaccinate those in the community,” said Diutlwileng.

Diutlwileng said the pandemic exposed that churches lack the social relevancy they once used to.

He said this was highlighted when the government listed essential personnel.

“Edenvale Methodist Church would like to maximise its service to the community and give back to community members’ physical and spiritual health.”

He said the church’s leadership is looking forward to the property being used as a vaccination site.

“The leadership is excited and receptive of the project; they see it as an extension of the mission of Jesus Christ of all people in the community regardless of socioeconomic status or religion.”

Volunteers and medical personal who can assist must email admin@emc.org.za or phone Birgitte on 011 452 1135 for more information.
