He was stopped by officers while on his way home from tending to a patient.

“Earlier that day I had received a call from my cousin who told me my aunt was dehydrated and needed medical attention,” said Jardine.

Jardine said no police officer or government official would stop him from fulfilling his duties as a medical practitioner.

Although Jardine did not have his permit with him, he tried to explain to the officers who he was.

He informed them that a hospital where he worked was located nearby.

Jardine said once arrested he was taken to Bedfordview Police Station.

At the station, he was informed that his bail would be R2 000. Jardine told officers he did not have that amount on him at the time.

He was released the following day on July 17 at 08:00 after his family paid his bail.

Jardine’s first court appearance was on July 19 at Edenvale Magistrate’s Court; however, the case was postponed to August 5.
