Northern Region Trials Club hosted round one and two of the championships held at two riding venues.

Vince van Eyk from the club said the championship was a family motorsport where dads and lads, dads and daughters and even grandfathers rode with grandchildren.

“We had 12 pre-set sections, which have never been ridden before and competitors had to do four laps in a time limit of five and a half hours to complete the event. Each section had a marshal capturing the penalty points and the rider with the lowest penalty points in each class wins,” he said.

He said current multiple SA Masters’ champion Brent Le Riche was impressive but some of his competitors were unable to ride due to injury and travel restrictions.

“Former masters multiple SA champ Mark Fox had an amazing comeback ride on both days and cleaned up the competition in the expert class. Toney Orrey, also a former multiple Masters SA champ, showed youngsters that he is still very competitive at the ripe old age of 60, placing third on Saturday and moving to second place on Sunday,” said van Eyk.

Jessica Orrey was said to have been very competitive in the clubman’s class taking plenty of scalps on both days.

Henri Van Rensburg was in first place for the clubman class, in second place was Dawie Louw, followed by Alex Denuyschen, Jessica Orrey and Nico Hesselman.

In first place in the expert class was Mark Fox, in second place was Tony Orrey, followed by Russel Heger, Aidan Mills and Bradley McEwan.

In the intermediate class, John Le Riche was in first place, followed by Clinton Mills, Vince Van Eyk, Rob Strydom and Guy Salver. Brent Le Riche was in first place in the masters class.
