Youth Day celebrations in Thembisa

The learners were also educated about bullying during the visit.

Mehlareng Combined Farm School, in Thembisa, received a visit from members of the Kempton Park SAPS on June 15.

The visit was in celebration and observation of Youth Day, which was attended by Kempton Park Vispol commander, support commander, sector commanders, CPF, social crime and communication.

According to Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, the school was identified as one of the underprivileged schools in Kempton The local station’s support commander, Col Motsatsi Lesomo, addressed the learners and educated them on what Youth Day means.

“Youth means power, innovation, encouragement, responsible and inspiration. And always remember that knowledge is power,” said Lesomo.

The learners were also educated about bullying and where to report bullying.

“These celebrations are done in June when it is winter and many homes use man-made fire ‘blazers’ where many families lose their loved ones when the fires are left unattended,” said Lesomo.

“Please tell your parents not to leave blazers on in the house when sleeping.”

Learning materials were donated to 100 learners, which was welcomed by the principal who appreciated the efforts made by police.
