First commemoration cup a success

The 12 teams, which entered were divided into four leagues based on the teams' regular league standings.

Cricket players took to the pitch when they competed in Edenvale’s first-ever Commemoration Cup Action Cricket Tournament.

Held at Edenvale Action Sports Arena on May 29, the tournament was held in honour of one of the organiser’s loved ones.

The tournament, which had a limited number of entrants and supporters due to Covid-19 regulations, saw teams from across Gauteng compete against one another in a six a side six over action cricket tournament.

It made use of a mix of outdoor and indoor cricket rules.

The 12 teams, which entered were divided into four leagues based on the teams’ regular league standings. The fourth league included mixed teams so men and women could compete against one another.

The leagues were as follows:
• A League: Wasted Potential, AwimbAwe and Kooka Burra
• B League: Y so serious, Bomb Squad and Bunch of Can’tz
• C League: Scorpions, Hit n Run and Cyber Squad
• Social Mix League: Outlaws, Half Full and Crazy 8

The tournament was split into four leagues.

Winners of the leagues were:
• A League: Wasted Potential
• B League: Y so serious
• C League: Scorpions

Social Mix League: Outlaws

Besides being able to enjoy themselves and claim the bragging rights of winning the tournament, winners of the event also walked away with their bar tabs paid.
