Edenvale business owner calls on CoE to repair infrastructure

Judging by the size of the pothole, van de Vyver believes the leak and pothole have been there for several months.

Edenvale business owner Andre van de Vyver has raised concerns over the deterioration of municipal infrastructure near his business premises.

Van de Vyver, who recently took ownership of a carwash, brought his concerns to the attention of the NEWS after he noticed a water leak and pothole located outside his business on Tenth Street.

When the NEWS visited the site, a water leak was found inside the pothole.

Judging by the size of the pothole, Van de Vyver believes the leak and pothole have been there for several months.

Besides having a potential impact on his business, clean water is steadily flowing from the leak and down the street.

Van de Vyver said he and his staff tried to flag municipal vehicles down when they saw them driving past.

“So far, we were told by the municipal workers we have managed to stop that they are not the relevant department and I must speak to someone else,” said van de Vyver.

As a Kempton Park resident, van de Vyver said the deterioration of municipal infrastructure is not unique to Edenvale.

He said he sees it happening in his home town too.

However, van de Vyver believes that municipal workers, no matter which department they work in, should be tasked with reporting municipal matters that need to be repaired.
