Edenvale Care Centre Hospice grateful for support

“When we can help a patient recover it brings so much positive energy into the care centre.”

Marlene Hooper of Edenvale Care Centre Hospice thanked the community and businesses for the recent support and donations on behalf of the care centre.
Marlene said in the past weeks several donations were made by companies, schools and a church.

She said the much-needed donations will be put to good use to assist the centre and patients under its care.

Donations included:
• 50 x 6 packs of Almond Breeze Milk from Blue Diamond Growers and Green Media a division of Grapevine.
• Groceries from Holy Rosary School as well as Eastleigh Primary School.
• Groceries from the Seventh Day Adventists.
• Clothes from members of the community.

“We were informed by Rotary Club of Knights Pendragron that Tiber Construction agreed to carry out the necessary repair work on our building in July,” said Marlene.
She said when she heard the news she was over the moon.

“I was so excited when I heard the news, I almost burst into tears.”

She said the recent article in the NEWS titled Hospice dispels certain myths surrounding palliative care inspired her to help as many patients as possible.

“I thought to myself, fantastic! This is what hospices are all about. They are not just about death,” said Marlene.

Marlene hopes to arrange for physiotherapy students to do their practicals at the care centre to assist patients who have suffered strokes.
Edenvale Care Centre Hospice welcomes patients in need of assistance. It caters for patients with end-stage renal and cardiac failure, hypertension, strokes, diabetes one and two, cancer, HIV/Aids, TB and multi-drug resistant TB.

Patients come from nine provincial hospitals in Gauteng to receive treatment.
