A carefree lifestyle for the active retiree

Rand Aid Association (RAA) is a well-established and successful NPO offering accommodation in a variety of independent-living retirement villages (life right and rental) and frail care centres to suit most budgets.

Don’t wait until it’s too late to put your name on a waiting list to enjoy carefree, independent living in your golden years. Rand Aid Association (RAA) is a well-established and successful NPO offering accommodation in a variety of independent-living retirement villages (life right and rental) and frail-care centres to suit most budgets.

All are situated in spacious, beautiful grounds with landscaped gardens and dams. Maintenance and most other ownership responsibilities are taken care of in the retirement villages, ensuring easy living that’s ideal if you’re seeking a pick-up-and-go lifestyle.
Life right villages

RAA’s retirement villages, sold on a life right basis to elders aged 65 and over, include Elphin Lodge, Thornhill Manor and Inyoni Creek, all situated in Edenvale/Modderfontein. A fourth village, Glendower, is in the planning phase and will overlook the Glendower Golf Course.

All villages have access to frail and recuperative care at Ron Smith Care Centre. All the life right villages offer cottages or apartments or both. All are easily accessible from the N3 Modderfontein turnoff and in close proximity to shopping centres and sports facilities.

Set on 13-hectares in secure surroundings, Elphin Lodge features dams with extensive birdlife, tranquil walks, spacious lawns and a swimming pool. The retirement village offers two-bedroom cottages and one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Thornhill Manor, set on 14-hectares within a fully secured residential estate, is characterised by a sense of tranquillity and complemented by its landscaped gardens. The village offers two- and three-bedroom cottages.

Inyoni Creek’s gradual slopes provide beautiful views, while the clubhouse overlooks dams that attract many birds. The 20-hectares and extensive greenbelt offer tranquil and safe nature walks.

The village offers modern and well-appointed units, from one-bedroom apartments to large three-bedroom cottages. Tarentaal is a friendly rental retirement village set in spacious and secure grounds.

Its 10-hectares offer many opportunities for safe walking and enjoying nature and extensive birdlife. The village offers one-bedroom and bedsitter apartments on a rental basis to elders aged 60 and over.

Facilities and services

Each village has different facilities. These range from an inter-denominational chapel to a library, recreation centre and/or clubhouse, swimming pool, laundrette and dining room.
Services include 24-hour security, recuperative and frail-care facilities, emergency call system, village sister and/or doctor onsite, DStv, garden and postal service and weekly servicing. Most villages have fibre.

Ron Smith Care Centre (RSCC), situated in the beautiful grounds of Elphin Lodge, ensures people are at the heart of everything it does. The 24-hour care centre offers quality care in either single or double rooms, with or without private bathrooms, in a choice of six separate wings, including a specialised dementia wing.

The inviting surroundings are enhanced by trees, well-tended gardens and dams with a variety of birdlife. RSCC pioneered person-centred care in Africa and was the first to achieve Milestone 2 on the Eden Alternative Registry on the continent.

Eden Alternative ensures RSCC brings the highest level of care and wellbeing to its residents and takes into account their holistic wellbeing, not just their physical care. Become part of Rand Aid’s caring, dynamic and connected community.
