New wheels for Little Eden residents

“The wheelchairs were developed by specialist Israeli doctors and engineers from ALYN Hospital, Israel’s leading paediatric and adolescent rehabilitation centre.”

Little Eden Society recently received five wheelchairs after Women’s International Zionist Organisation (Wizo) Johannesburg visited the home.

The brightly coloured wheelchairs, specially designed in Israel for young children, were donated to society to uplift and change the lives of some of SA’s most vulnerable citizens. The donation handover was held on May 3 as part of Wizo Johannesburg’s outreach programme.

“The wheelchairs were developed by specialist Israeli doctors and engineers from ALYN Hospital, Israel’s leading paediatric and adolescent rehabilitation centre,” said Lauren Phillips of Wizo Johannesburg.

Designed for children aged five to nine, who have upper body strength and weigh up to 40kg, the wheelchairs are lightweight and robust to handle urban and country terrain. Besides donating the wheelchairs, Wizo Johannesburg, with the assistance of Sandringham SPAR, brought pastries for the residents and staff of the society to enjoy.
